The Lost Shops of Seaford: A Walking-Memory Tour of Post-War Family Firms
Between 1986 and 1988 Seaford said goodbye to a run of family firms that had served the town since the war: G. H. Buckland the furnishers, the Seymours' electrical business, J. T. Wood the newspaper wholesalers, County Hardware and Winser's the newsagents. This short town-centre walk visits the streets where they traded and tells what the Seaford Gazette recorded as each one changed hands or shut its doors.
Winifred Mandeville: The Seaford Woman Who Joined the First Women's Army Corps in 1917
In 1917 a 20-year-old munitions worker called Winifred Wilcox joined the brand-new Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and was in France within weeks. She came home engaged to an airman, settled in Seaford for the rest of her life, and was still wearing her original uniform to reunions seventy years later.
Charles Bravery and Seaford's Cinema Dynasty
